SDLXLIF in memoQ, or There and Back Again
Trados Studio as an internal format uses it’s own flavor of XLIFF, namely SDLXLIFF. Since these files generally adhere to quite loosely defined XLIFF standard, it is easy to open them in other tools supporting XLIFF (particularly in memoQ), translate them and insert translated file back into Studio project. Unfortunately all data on matching and segment statuses are coded in Trados-specific way, so we’ll lose this information when switching tools. Fortunately, there’s a way to keep at least segment states.

Niedługo po wypuszczeniu na rynek programu Trados Studio firma SDL udostępniła interfejs programistyczny (API) programu, zapraszając wszystkich chętnych do tworzenia dodatków rozszerzających funkcjonalność pakietu. Importing glossary entries to MultiTerm
MultiTerm is a powerful software, but it was clearly written by people with a mindset completely alien to most of the people who are supposed to use it. Translators, for whom Trados was the first CAT tool often does not value glossaries too much, simply because Trados does not encourage the use of glossaries. Creation and maintenance of MultiTerm glossaries is not a something very simple, and even such – it would seem – trivial task as generating a database from glossary in Excel file can be a real pain. Multiterm. Program o potężnych możliwościach, lecz pisany przez osoby o sposobie myślenia kompletnie nieprzystającym do większości populacji. Osoby, które zaczęły pracę z CAT od Tradosa rzadko cenią sobie glosariusze, ponieważ Trados nie wymusza ich stosowania, a tworzenie i “konserwacja” glosariuszy w MultiTermie (MT) jest – delikatnie ujmując – niezbyt łatwa. Nawet z pozoru tak banalne zadanie jak przygotowanie bazy w MT z otrzymanego glosariusza w Excelu może być drogą przez mękę. Jak to zrobić szybko i bezstresowo? Zapraszam do lektury.

To świetne rozwiązanie dla tłumaczy freelancerów i biur tłmaczeń, między innymi dzięki możliwości tworzenia projektów on-line oraz przydzielania tłumaczom czasowych licencji. Program świetnie radzi sobie z obsługą plików przygotowanych w innych programach CAT, mn. Tados, Transit czy WordFast.
