Pat Turner

After looking through all the covers I'd done with Jim, I had to settle on these two. They weren't what I thought were my best, or worst, but covers that for some reason stuck in my mind for something that Jim had said during the making of them.

The first was for David Drake's, “Northworld Trilogy”. Jim had roughly explained the storyline and wanted one of the mechanical "Knights" that were a part of the tale. I hadn't received a copy of the book and was relying on Jim's description. What followed was very much like that story of three blind men trying to describe an elephant based on the part of the elephant they were intimate with. I produced several versions of the "mech" that varied from Cylon, to Robbie The Robot, and none fit the bill. Finally, Jim saved the day by offering the art direction, "Think Silver Surfer!" Voila.
